A lead is a prospective client. Leads can be classified as “cold” meaning you never talked to them. Or, a lead can be “hot” meaning that you have engaged in some form of communication.
Either way, the lead has not become a paid client yet.
You should have a running list of every single person that you talk to regarding your business. Every single person.
Lead Management should be a part of your systems.
